MARY GERTRUDE (WEINANDT) O?CONNOR, age 90, of Lakefield, formerly of Brewster, died Monday, January 2, 2009 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield. She was born, September 20, 1918, at home in Graham Lakes Township in Nobles County to parents, Matthew and Antonia (Krukemeyer) Weinandt. Mary attended country school until the eighth grade and then went to Brewster Public School, graduating in 1936. Mary was united in marriage to Lawrence O?Connor on October 13, 1936, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. They settled in Sioux Valley raising six children. Mary had various jobs in the area, Sioux Valley School, Montgomery Ward, Worthington, Monsanto, Brewster, and Nobles County Coop, Worthington, retiring in 1983. Following her husband?s death in 1967, she moved to Brewster. Mary was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. She was active in the Sioux Valley and Brewster Legion Auxiliary, Sacred Heart Parish and the Brewster Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, gardening, reading and cooking. Mary leaves behind two sons, Larry (Shirley) O?Connor, Ocheydan, IA; Pat (Jean) O?Connor, Brewster; three daughters, Marilyn (Duane) Jandera-Larson, Lakefield; Rosemary (Larry) Noble, Hastings; and Alice O?Connor Brewster; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1967, two sons, Bernard and John, brothers, Matthew and Joseph, and two sisters, Clara Wakeman and Leona O?Boyle.
