MARY MAE JULIUS, age 90, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Brewster, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at TouchMark Memory Care Unit, in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born December 30, 1924 in George, IA to parents Renke and Jennie (Houwen) Renken. Mary lived with her parents on a farm near George, IA; and moved with her parents to Ashton, IA in 1944.
Mary married Ray Julius on March 1, 1946 in her parents' home in Ashton, IA. They moved to a farm near Ashton for three years and then moved to a farm near Westbrook, MN. In 1961 they purchased a farm near Brewster, MN. They retired and moved to Worthington in 1992.
Mary worked at the Brewster School as a cook for four years and then began working at the Kmart store for eighteen years. After she retired from Kmart, she worked at County Market for six years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Brewster and also the Ladies Aid, church choir and the Lorain Project. Mary loved her family, cooking and visiting with people, and had many friends. She was noted for her large batches for cookies and bars.
She leaves to cherish her memories are her three children, Bonnie (Jim) Hazelwood, Chester, SD; Diann (Joe) Strouth, Greely, CO; and Rodney Julius, Brewster, MN; four grandchildren, Todd Hazelwood, Stacie Patterson, Tara (John) Mora and Jessie (Jason) Yarnell, and eight great grandchildren, Addie Patterson, Aric, Jenna, Jessi and Kelli Mora; and Killian, Sunnie and Hattie Yarnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray on June 12, 2009; five brothers, Bill, John, Henry, George & Raymond; five sisters, Esther, Annie, Lillie, Martha & Mabel; and two infant sisters, Bessie & Jessie.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Jason Cunningham. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery in Brewster.
