Obituary

MATHILDA M. PEARSON, age 98, of Worthington, died Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Country Living Cottages in Adrian. She was born June 2, 1925, in St. Kilian, to John and Elizabeth (Burkard) Bruns. She attended grade school at St. Kilian Catholic School and graduated from St. Anthony Catholic School in 1943. After high school, Mathilda worked as a bookkeeper at Worthmore Hatchery. C.A. Swanson's & Sons bought the creamery and she stayed on as bookkeeper. Later, Campbell's Soup Co. bought out C.A. Swanson's & Sons. In 1956, Jim Pearson & Bernie Van Roekel purchased the hatchery. Mathilda continued working in the office until her retirement in 1981.

Mathilda married Jim Pearson on October 11, 1980, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington. They enjoyed wintering in Alamo, TX. After Jims death on May 9, 2004, Mathilda continued to reside in Worthington and Alamo, TX.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington, the WCCW and RSVP. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and volunteering in Texas and in Worthington especially for the American Red Cross.

Mathilda is survived by her brother, Elmer Bruns, Fargo, ND; a sister, Shirley Schmidt, Emmetsburg, IA; many nieces & nephews; and very good friends, Steve & Theresa Thill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; four brothers, Jerome, Ray, Valery and Ervin Bruns; four sisters, Marcella (George) Welder, Lucille Bruns, Gladys Bruns & Ella Mae Bruns; a sister-in-law, Janice Bruns; and a brother-in-law, John Schmidt.

A time of fellowship will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am Friday, May 10 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 am Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. Tim Biren Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.

Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary Church WCCW, Sanford Hospice or the Worthington Public Libruary.
