Obituary

MAXINE JUNE BUSSE, age 90 of Worthington, died December 8, 2024, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington surrounded by her family. She was born August 7, 1934, in Wadena, to Arthur and Flossie (Williams) Ames. Her mother passed away at a very young age and her father was unable to care for her. Maxine and her brother were placed in foster homes and later in an Orphanage in Owatonna. She and her brother were later lovingly adopted by Ernest and Letha Petersen of Sioux Valley, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. She was also a lifetime member of St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Worthington. She graduated from Sioux Valley School in 1952. Maxine moved to Worthington after high school and started working and that is when she caught the eye of a handsome boy who later became her beloved husband. She was united in marriage to Charles Busse on October 2, 1955, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. She and her husband owned and operated Chuck's Conoco for forty-plus years. She was the bookkeeper and eventually turned the books over to her daughter, Lori and later her son, Chuck. In earlier years, she worked at Worthmore Ice Cream, Gobbler Café and Johnson's Jewelry. She loved and adored spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many fond family memories were at their family cabin at Lake Shetek as well as connecting with all of her Ames family. In 2023, Maxine was able to fly out to the east coast to meet her newest great-granddaughters. What a wonderful time she had. She also had a love/hate relationship with technology – loved being able to keep up with the grands and the greats, but didn't like it when technology wouldn't cooperate. On Saturday, December 7, 2024 – the family celebrated an early Christmas – and what a gift. Everyone made it and she was able to see and love on everyone. Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Cindy (Greg) Wallace, Worthington; Cheryl (Jay) Lake, Sioux City, IA; seven grandchildren, Chad (Autum) Larson, Nicole (Ryan) Sehr, April and Adam Wallace, Dillon, Dustin (Morgan) and Tanner (Megan) Smith; several great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Robert (Jean) Ames, Roger (Mary) Petersen, Ana Petersen, Alan (Jennifer) Petersen, Barb (Tony) Schei, Karen Hinds, and Bryant (Kim) Sankey; and sister-in-law, Irma Petersen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles on February 11, 2003; two daughters, Pamela Rae in 1958 and Lori Dawn in 1985; son, Charles Steven in 2023; and brother, Alfred Petersen.
