MAXINE "MAX" MARIE HILKE, age 56, of Luverne, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born July 8, 1957, in Dubuque, IA, to Kenneth and Marie (Scepaniak) Hilke. She graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1975; and later attended the University of Minnesota.
Max was a homemaker; and lived in Nevada. In 2009, she moved to Luverne. She worked at Swift in Worthington. After being diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2012, Max retired from Swift and worked part time at Casey's and Dollar General in Luverne.
She loved to laugh and have a good time with her family. Max enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting and especially caring for her many parrots.
Max is survived by her fiancée, John Buckner, Luverne; brother, Leonard Hilke, Minneapolis; niece, Michelle Persaude, Brooklyn Center; nephew, Edwin Hilke, Brooklyn Center; and three great nieces & nephews, Jada, Jaylin & Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Deanie Hilke.
A memorial service will be 2 pm Sunday, August 18, at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremains will be at the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
