Obituary

MAYNARD (DOEDIE) DOEDEN, age 82, of Worthington died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington. He was born June 8, 1926 in Worthington to parents Andrew and Inez (Jenkins) Doeden. Maynard graduated from Worthington Public High School in 1943. After his graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his nation from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He served as an electrician on the aircraft carrier Salerno Bay CVE 110 and served in the Pacific Theater. He was also in the United States Navy Reserve until 1950. After his discharge he farmed in Bigelow Township. Maynard was united in marriage to Joan Johnson on November 11, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington. They lived in Bigelow Township for 51 years. In 2001 they moved to Worthington. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Worthington and did volunteer work for the church. He was also a greeter and helped with the sound system. Maynard was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW in Worthington. He was also on the board of directors of the Nobles County Coop Worthington Elevator. Maynard was a founding member of the Prairie Reapers. He restored old tractors, collected antique motorcycles, wrenches, model airplane engines and guns. He enjoyed playing cards and going out to the Blue Line for coffee every day. Maynard and Joan also enjoyed attending his Navy reunion?s for 14 years Maynard is survived by his wife, Joan Doeden, Worthington, son, Steve (Marge) Doeden, Brooklyn Park, MN; two grandchildren, Michael Doeden, St. Cloud, MN and Justin Doeden, Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
