MELVIN EIDSMO, age 85, of Appleton, MN, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom. He was born November 30, 1938, in St. Paul, to Oswald and Lucille (Budnick) Eidsmo. Melvin graduated from Hopkins High School in 1958; and later from Willmar Vo-Tech. He served his country in the United States Navy Air Corp. for six years.

Melvin married Dorothy Schultz in August of 1967. They lived in various places including Minneapolis, Prior Lake, Ortonville, Big Stone, SD, Lonsdale and Appleton. He worked construction, concrete and brick layer, carpenter and also was an apprentice in electric. Dorothy died in 1999.

He married Ann Lafond in January of 2001. The couple lived in Appleton. Melvin was a member of the VFW Appleton; and the Big Stone City, SD American Legion. He served as a volunteer fireman in Big Stone City and a first responder and EMT for which he received honors from South Dakota for saving a life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, hunting, horses, hockey and the Minnesota Twins & Vikings.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Michele (Bruce) Vortherms, Adrian; two grandsons, Braxton and Preston Vortherms; two sisters, Eileen (Gene) Cameron, Shakopee; and Barb Arne; and step children from both his marriages.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and a sister, Connie.

A private family service will take place at a later date with Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Adrian.
