MONTY RAY O'NEIL, age 70, of Worthington, died Tuesday March 5, 2019, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born on October 27, 1948, in Adrian, to Daryle and Louise (Hieronimus) O'Neil. He attended schools in Wilmont and Worthington before he graduated from Fulda High School in 1966. Monty served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier during the Vietnam War.

Monty married Darlene Buller on April 15th, 1972, at the First Mennonite Church in Mountian Lake. During their marriage, they lived near Wilmont, Worthington and Lake Benton, before buying their current acreage south of Worthington, where they have lived for nearly thirty years.

Monty worked in various jobs and farmed for a time before completing a hair styling course. He worked in that profession for many years. In June of 2005, his career was cut short when at the age of 56 he had a stroke. He nearly recovered, but was stricken with a second stroke in October of 2005, which left him paralyzed on one side of his body. Although he was unable to work, he enjoyed mowing the lawn with the riding mower. He previously enjoyed having horses around and attending horse sales.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, where he served as an elder and in other capacities. Monty very much enjoyed his two children and five grandchildren; they were his pride and joy.

Monty is survived by his wife, Darlene O'Neil, Worthington; son, Christopher (Marina) O'Neil, Jasper, and their daughters, Elsie, Katie and Christina; daughter, Elizabeth (Jason) Gutierrez, Casper, WY, and their sons, Nicholas and William; mother, Louise O'Neil, Worthington; brother, Douglas (Linda) O'Neil, Arlington, SD; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Buller, Windom; and Donna (Milton) Steele, Blue Earth; and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daryle O'Neil; and his father-in law & mother-in-law, Herb & Agnes Buller.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 am at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Galen Smith. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial with full military honors provided by the Worthington American Legion & VFW will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
