Obituary

ORVIN ?Orv? R. WIERTZEMA, age 70, of Worthington, died, Thursday, November 6, 2008 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born April 5, 1938 in Adrian to parents George and Luella (Habbena) Wiertzema. He attended rural school in Little Rock Township and then attended Adrian Public School. The family moved to Kanaranzi when he was sixteen years old and he worked for the Karanazi Elevator and later helped install grain bins. In 1957 he worked for Dunkle Beverage Company in Luverne. Orvin was united in marriage to Nancy Bonnett on April 30, 1960 at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. They moved to Worthington on March 1, 1961. He started working for Hagen Distributing on December 1, 1960 and retired in 2003. He was a member of American Lutheran Church in Worthington where he served on the church council for three years and was a financial counter for fifteen years. Orvin was also a charter member of the Eagles Club in Worthington. Orvin enjoyed dancing, fishing, woodworking, camping, traveling and visiting with family and friends. He loved his kids and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending winters in Texas and especially enjoyed his motor home. He was an avid fan of the Larry Olsen Polka Band and also enjoyed visiting the Black Hills and the Sturgis Motor Cycle Rally. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wiertzema, Worthington; children, Kim (Todd) Brua, Sioux Falls, SD; Scott (Sindy) Wiertzema, Brandon, SD; Jodi Janssen, Stewartville, MN; and Brent (Tammy) Wiertzema, Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step- great-grandson; brothers, Virgil (Anita) Wiertzema, Bigelow; Marvin ?Mike? (Verna) Wiertzema, Rushmore; sisters, Florence Winter, Rock Rapids, IA; Rosella (Harm) Dammer, Worthington and Delores ?Lorie? (Ed) Weiss, Adrian; sisters-in-law, Lena Wiertzema, Ellsworth and Alma Wiertzema, Rushmore. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Verona Wiertzema and brothers, Clarence and Herman Wiertzema.
