Patricia L. Terhaar, 87, of Worthington, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at her home in Ecumen Meadows.
Born May 28, 1929 in Murdock, Minnesota, she was the daughter of John and Adeline Chevalier Hanlon. She married Richard Terhaar on June 20, 1953, in Morris, Minnesota.
She graduated from Morris High School and St. Gabriel's School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in Morris, where she met and married Richard Terhaar. After they married, they lived in Souix Falls, South Dakota for three years. They moved to Worthington in 1956 where she made her home for 60 years. She worked as a geriatric nurse at Cashel Nursing Home and later as Director of Nurses at Fauskee Nursing Home. In recent years, Patty often said, "Old people were my cup of tea…now I'm the tea!"
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and participated in Bible Study and prayer group. She was an avid knitter and made afghans for all of her children and grandchildren. Her family was her biggest delight.
She deeply missed her husband Richard, who preceded her in death by 11 years. Surviving are her five children: Jackie (Paul) Coates, Greensboro, NC; Bob (Kathleen) Terhaar, St. Louis Park, MN; Colleen Terhaar (Jim Pearson) Rockaway Beach, OR; Jim (Nina) Terhaar, Inver Grove Heights, MN; and Mary (Owen) Head, Coppell, TX. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A Time of fellowship will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 am on Thursday December 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. Father Jim Callahan and Deacon Vern Behrends will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the church cemetery.
