PAUL HILFERS, age 87, of Worthington, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at his home. He was born on June 5, 1922 in Worthington to parents, John and Kate (Rabenberg) Hilfers. Paul attended rural school and also public school in Wilmont. After his schooling he was engaged in farming. He briefly moved to Hopkins where he met LaVae Laabs. Paul married LaVae on January 4, 1944 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. After their marriage the couple lived in Worthington and then moved to the Huntley/Granada area. In 1951 they moved back to Worthington and Paul worked with his father and brother, Joseph in the carpentry/construction business. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. He enjoyed helping his children with any project. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Paul is survived by his children, Paulette (David) Yates, Worthington, MN; Jackie (William) Reum, Worthington, MN; Daryl (Rebecca) Hilfers, Luverne; Kevin (Roxanne) Hilfers, Waconia, MN; eight grandchildren, Chancey and Kathy Yates, Kelly and Randy Reum, John, Martin and Ryan Hilfers and Lisa Mahoney, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two sisters, Irene Lundgren, Princeton, MN and Joan Martinez, Weatherford, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaVae on December 10, 2006, brother, Joseph, infant brother, Edward and step-brother, George Munkel.
