PAUL E. SCHARLEPP, age 82, of Worthington, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born on January 10, 1928, to parents Frederick and Katherine (Popkes) Scharlepp in Sibley, Iowa. He graduated from Sibley High School, in 1946, and attended the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. Paul worked for the REA, in Sibley, for a short time before enlisting in the United States Army. He served in the Occupational Forces in Japan. Paul was united in marriage to Beverly Zinnel on July 28, 1951, in Worthington. The couple lived in Worthington where Paul worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. They moved to Duluth where Paul managed The Firestone Retread Shop for one year before moving back to Worthington. Paul returned to work at Firestone and later The Worthington Tire Service Company until retirement in 1993. He then worked part time at Sterling Drug for a short time. In 1993, Paul & Bev moved to the Atrium High Rise where Paul started working in the maintenance department and continued to work until his death. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington; and the Worthington VFW. Paul enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed working and being around the people he worked with. Paul is survived by his wife, Beverly Scharlepp, Worthington; two nieces, Sheila (Ken) Benz, Melvin, Iowa; and Shelley (Rick) Zins, Brewster; brother-in-law, Bob (special friend, Doris Palmer) Malcolm, Worthington; and a sister-in-law, LaVon Zinnel, Chestertown, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clayton Scharlepp; and two nephews.
