PERYL MARY BERNING, age 95, of Luverne, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Ashton Care Center, in Pipestone. She was born April 20, 1910, in Kenneth, to Nels and Mary (Remme) Hovland. She attended school in Pipestone. Peryl married Leo H. Berning on February 1, 1927, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Lismore. After their marriage, the couple lived in Lismore until moving to Kenneth in 1940. In 1943, they moved to Luverne, where Peryl worked at Roy?s Caf?, Adams Hatchery & Hakes Produce. In 1956, the couple moved to Adrian. Peryl then worked at Campbell?s Soup Company, in Worthington before retiring. The couple moved back to Luverne in 1987. Peryl became a resident of the Ashton Care Center, in Pipestone, in July of 2003. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne; and the WCCW. She enjoyed baking, playing cards & dancing. Peryl is survived by her son, Leo Jr., and his fianc?e, Geneva Dibble, Alexandria; two daughters, Mary Ann Slagel, Northfield; and Betty Serie, Pipestone; eleven grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Joyce) Hovland, Luverne; and a sister, Rosie (Kenny) Sanstede, Hills. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo, on June 3, 1994; an infant grandson; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Berning; son-in-law, Paul Slagel; four sisters; and a brother.
