PETER N. BEUKELMAN, age 91, of Leota, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota. He was born July 9, 1920, in Leota, to William and Tillie (Westenberg) Beukelman. He attended Leota country school, until the eighth grade and completed ninth grade at Edgerton Public High School. He served his country during WWII from 1942 to 1947 as a Medic in the U.S. Army.
Peter married Henrietta Vanderburg on July 28, 1944, in Henderson, KY. Peter was a lifelong resident of Leota. He was employed at Pronk Brothers Sand & Gravel and Ted Pool Construction. He was also a Rural Route Mail Carrier until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota where he served as Deacon and Elder. Peter also served on the Leota Public School Board. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Peter is survived by his wife, Henrietta Beukelman, four children, Loretta (Paul) Smith, Holland, MI; Rodney (Helen) Beukelman, Sioux Center, IA; Ruth (Frank) Panzino, Placentia, CA; Shirlee (Karl) Tomlinson, Corpus Christi, TX; nine grandchildren, Emilie Smith, Geoffrey Smith, Daniel (Jennifer) Beukelman, Lee (Danielle) Beukelman, Morgan Panzino, Madison Panzino, Karlita (Carl Lynch) Tomlinson, Kristine (Shawn) Stevenson, Khala (Robert) Brodie, seven great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry William Beukelman, in 1966; a brother and sister--in- law, Dick & Eloyce Beukelman.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. A time of fellowship will be held at the church one hour prior to the Memorial service. A private burial of cremains will be at a later date in the Leota Community Cemetery.
Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, and the Leota Burial Association are in charge of arrangements.
