PETER DEBOER, age 95, of Beaver Creek, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. He was born April 28, 1916 on a farm one mile west of Edna, IA; to parents, Jurrien and Florence (Huizenga) DeBoer. He attended country school in Iowa and graduated from the sixth grade. He held various jobs throughout the United States during the depression years. His jobs included working at a saw mill, a sheep herder, working on the Coolidge Dam, dairy farming and also as an iron worker. He served his nation during World War II from 1941 until 1944 in the 41st Infantry, 163rd United States Army Infantry Division in medical detachment, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. After the service, he farmed for one year with his brother John north of Beaver Creek.
On November 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to Augusta Dohlmann in Adrian, MN. They made their home in Beaver Creek and he worked for the John Morrell Company in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1951, they farmed in the Hardwick area and in 1958 farmed near Canistota, SD and in 1960 farmed east of Sherman, SD. Peter retired from farming in 1974 and moved to Beaver Creek. He became a resident of the Tuff Memorial Home in August of 2010.
Peter was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne since 1964. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, small engine repair and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Peter is survived by his children, Darrell (Rita) DeBoer, Lloyd (Marilyn) DeBoer and Lyle (Carolyn) DeBoer all of Beaver Creek; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister Barbara Van Tol, Ripon, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Augusta on July 7, 1992, brothers, Bill, Chuck and John, sisters, Anna Anema, Ruth Hengeveld, Effie DeBoer and Florence DeBoer and four infant siblings.
