Randy John Landhuis

RANDY JOHN LANDHUIS, age 77, of Leota, died Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. He was born August 14, 1949 to Howard and Clarice (Anker) Landhuis. He lived his whole life in Leota. He graduated from Edgerton Public High School in 1968. He then attended Northwestern College in Orange City and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for his mechanical engineering degree.

On September 15, 1979, Randy married Wanda Jongsma in Harrison, SD. They made their home in Leota, MN. They were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Todd.

After college, Randy first worked for A.R.Wood Manucturing in Luverne, Minnesota. In 1976, he bought a share of Country Lumber where he worked for over 40 years. Even after he “retired”, he would go to the yard often to help out. He was a member of the South Dakota Retail Lumberman’s Association and received the Lumberman of the Year award in 2017. He was a lifetime member of Bethel Reformed Church (now Leota Community Church) where he served on consistory as both elder and deacon, as a catechism teacher and member of the choir. Randy was also a member of the Gideons for many years.

Randy loved spending time with his family and being a loving dad and grandpa. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, restoring old cars and traveling to car shows. In 2012, he asked the Leota Park Board if he could put on a car show in Leota the same night as the park pork supper fundraiser. That’s when Pork N’ Pistons in the Park was started. He spent many hours each year passing out flyers at other car shows and businesses. It has been held every year since and has grown from a few vehicles to close to 100 each year.

He is survived by his wife Wanda, their sons Jeff, (Carmen) of Sioux Falls, Todd of Luverne, granddaughter, Harper and his brother Keith (Peggy), of Rochester, MN and brother-in-law Mark Jongsma, of Brandon, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Clarice and his parents-in-law, Doc & Ruth Jongsma. 

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the Leota Community Church North Campus. Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Leota Community Church North Campus. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.

Dingmann Funeral Home and the Leota Burial Association are in charge of arrangements.
