Raney Miles Israelson, age 82, of Luverne, died Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home, in Luverne, surrounded by his family after a six month battle with cancer. He was born in Morrison County, Minnesota on July 16, 1940 to Albert and Maymie (Winsor) Israelson. He graduated from Hickman High School, Hickman, NE.
Raney married Janet May on July 28, 1962, in Hickman, NE. To this union were born a son, Brant and daughter, Staci. He first worked for a telephone company. He then owned his own trucking business and later owned his own insurance company in Nebraska. Raney and Jan moved to Luverne, MN in 1977, where he then worked at Northwest Bank as an insurance agent. In 1984, they bought the Country Kitchen in Luverne, MN. They owned it for twenty three years, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of Luverne Presbyterian Church. Raney loved his family and was a big part of their lives. He loved playing cards (he didn't go anywhere without his digital pocket poker game). He loved lake time up at Sauk Lake with all his lake friends especially fishing with his brothers, nephews and special friend, Virgil Van Batavia. He was a lawn master until the end.
Raney is survived by wife, Jan of sixty years; daughter, Staci (Monte) Zwaan, Luverne, MN; daughter-in-law, Val; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Renee) Israelson, La Habra, CA; Tanner Israelson, Fullerton, CA; MacKenzi (TJ) Loger, Steen, MN; Chazni Zwaan, Luverne, MN; Miraya, Angel and Dominic Rodríguez, Hesperia, CA; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Connor, Lennon and Lola; and siblings, Al (Pat) Israelson, East Bethel; Isaac (Marlene) Israelson, Hudson, WI; and Leah Waldron, Sheboygan, WI.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; son, Brant; grandson, Zachary; two brothers, William and Ellsworth; a sister, Linnea; and special friend, Don McCord.
A time of fellowship will be Saturday, April 15, from noon to 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. Memorial service will be 2 pm Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Luverne, is in charge of arrangements.
