Obituary

RICHARD F. NUEHSE, age 90, of Round Lake, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center, in Aurelia, IA where he had resided for the past four years. He was born May 8, 1918, in Sioux Valley, MN, to Herman and Bertha (Schumann) Nuehse. He attended country school near Brewster. Rich served his country in the United States Army during WWII, serving overseas in Germany. Rich worked as a hired farm hand for Dahl Hinton and Cecil Johnson. He later worked at Joe Smith Trucking. Rich married Audrey Miller Versluis on October 5, 1957, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Round Lake. Rich worked on road construction. He later worked constructing elevators for Watson & Thompson, which later became Berreau Industries. He retired in 1983. He was a 48- year member of the Round Lake American Legion. Rich enjoyed woodworking. He could construct almost anything. He also enjoyed fishing; and enjoyed spending time with his family especially during the many holidays when he was the main cook. Honored to have shared his life are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan & Bruce Kruger, Round Lake; and Lorri & Curt Glawe, Aurelia, IA; son, Kenny Versluis, Spencer, IA; eight grandchildren, Scott (Lori) Kruger, Sara (Jeff) Smith, Kelly Versluis, Sean Kruger, Jordan Glawe, Marissa Glawe, Meghan Glawe & Austin Glawe; seven great-grandchildren, Logan & Sydney Smith; Taylor, Morgan & Jackson Kruger, and Kylee & Kelsey Versluis; brother, Otto (Adeline) Nuehse, Fulda; and a sister, Elsie Davids, Apple Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey, in 1978; grandson, Shane Kruger, in 1972; brother, Ted Nuehse; and an infant brother.
