Obituary

RIENARD J. HENRICHS, (R.J.), age 90, of Ellsworth, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth. R.J. was born August 19, 1918 in Lynn County near Minneota, Minnesota to Rienard and Bertha (Alleckson) Henrichs. His family moved to Ellsworth, Minnesota when he was nine years old. He started working outside his family home at the age of eleven for Art and Ann Hickman. He worked for them until he graduated from Ellsworth Public School in 1936. R.J. was involved in many activities in high school but one of his prized achievements was being awarded the American Legion Citizenship Award. After high school he worked for Art and Louie Essman until he married Doris Nolte, August 31, 1940, in Brewster, at which time they started farming on their own. Farming was an occupation that R.J. really enjoyed, especially working with livestock. He took great pride in being able to help neighbors, Charles Siemer and Miles Birkett, with veterinary needs. R.J. was an active member of the Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, over a span of forty years, beginning at the age of seventeen. R.J. served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Deacon and Elder. A quote written on a small piece of paper which served as a marker in his Bible, describes how R.J. lived his life. It reads as follows: ?It takes a special kind of man to care enough to take the time for others...It takes the kind of man who, in a quiet and sincere way will do whatever it takes to help somebody out...Someone who knows that giving makes living a pleasure and thoughtfulness is the best measure of a man?. Aside from his faith nothing was dearer to him than his family. His favorite hobby was fishing with his daughter, son-in?-law, grandson, and friend Walt Oehlerts. Other interest?s were reading, hunting, and attending sporting events which involved his children and grandson. Grateful for sharing his life are Doris, wife of sixty-eight years; daughter and son-in-law Mary Kaye and Chuck Pfeister of Sioux Center, Iowa, one grandson J.C. Pfeister and his wife Danielle, and two great granddaughters Logan and Kate of Shawnee, Kansas. Also surviving, are his sisters Betty Bunting of Bethel Island, California, Cleo (Jerry) Vaupel of Owatonna, Minnesota, one brother, Jerry (Carla) Henrichs of Romona, South Dakota, and two sisters-in-law Fran (Henrichs) Johnson of Tea, South Dakota and Eileen Henrichs of Galena, Illinois. R.J. always valued all of his in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Preceding R.J. in death were his son Bart in 1969, his parents Rienard and ?Bea?, his sister, ?Gustie? and two brothers Orvin and Peter. A quote R.J. loved was; ?A man who walks with God always gets to his destination?. (Heaven)
