ROBERT "Lefty" JENSEN, age 82, of Worthington, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Sanford Worthington Medical Center. He was born December 21, 1930 in Heron Lake, MN; to parents James M. and Lula (Engebretson) Jensen. In 1939 the family moved to Worthington, MN. He graduated from Worthington Senior High School in 1950. He proudly served his country during the Korean War Era in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands.
Robert returned to Worthington after being honorably discharged from the Air Force where he met and married Shirley A. Ahrens, the love of his life, on November 23, 1957. He was a big fan of baseball and played first base on the high school and Worthington Cubs baseball teams. In addition, he played for two years while in the Air Force. He was a Twins fan since the team moved to Minneapolis in the 1960's. In addition to baseball, Lefty enjoyed football and golf.
Robert worked as a bookkeeper at Buysse Motors, a salesman for Texaco Petroleum Products, a parts sales man at NAPA Auto Parts and a custodian at Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington where he retired in 1992
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW in Worthington.
Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Jensen, Worthington; children, Mary (Bruce) Viessman, Worthington; Jeannie (Joe) Vortherms, Champlin, MN; and Lori (Scott) Fildes, Zimmerman, MN; seven grandchildren, three nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wallace H. Jensen and sisters, Barbara L. Snelson and Opal J. Zarn.
