ROBERT JOSEPH DeBATES, age 94, of Adrian, died Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born November 12, 1930, in Jasper, to Charles and Amanda (Donth) DeBates. Bob attended school in Magnolia before attending Mankato Vo-Tech for Electronics. He served his country in the United States Army.
Bob married Bernice Boomgaarden on June 18, 1955, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Adrian. They moved to Mankato and lived there until moving to Worthington where Bob worked as an electrician. They later moved to Adrian. Bob worked at McClure's Electric, in Luverne, for over thirty five years.
He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and golfing.
Bob is survived by his three children, Sherry (Harlan) Boersma, Worthington; Terry (Karen) DeBates, Sioux Falls, SD; and Craig (Vickie) DeBates, Adrian; six grandchildren, Erin (Noel) Hammill, Brandi DeBates, Cory DeBates, Kyle DeBates, Amber (Josh) King & Andrew Rosales; four great-grandchildren, Paige, Pierce, Cole and Devin; and a sister-in-law, Eunice Prins, Rushmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Bernice on October 6, 2014; a son, Dwayne; brother, Edward DeBates; and three sisters, Elaine Vogt, Lorraine McCormick and Tress Manley.
A time of fellowship will be from 5-7 pm Friday, April 25 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion, will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
