ROBERT ?BOB? A. FILSON, age 56, of Worthington, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage, in Worthington. He was born December 30, 1949, in Oak Park, IL, to Robert and Ellen (Swanson) Filson. Bob graduated from York High School, in Elmhurst, IL; and later from Augustana College, in Rock Island, IL, where he was a proud member of the Omicron Sigma Omicron Fraternity. He served in the Army National Guard in Illinois from 1970 to 1976. Bob married Sherry Johnson on October 21, 1972, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, in Plainfield, IL. After their marriage, the couple lived in Brookfield, IL, where Bob work as the city?s Assistant City Administrator. Bob served as a City Administrator for the rest of his career. The family moved to Cheney, WA, in 1977. In 1981, the family moved to Mora; and to Gunnison, Co, in 1990. In 1996, they moved to Worthington where Bob served as the City Administrator. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church, in Worthington; the International City Manager?s Association; the League of Minnesota Cities; the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities; the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association; the Minnesota City/County Management Association; the Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency; the Southwestern MN Street Rodders; and the Gunnison Car Club. Bob received many awards including the Distinguished Rural Leadership Award, in 2006, from the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities; the Resolution of Commendation from the City of Gunnison, CO; and the Proclamation of Commendation from the Minnesota City/County Management Association. He enjoyed golfing, being a SCUBA diving instructor; antique cars; auto crossing; and being a pilot. Bob is survived by his wife, Sherry Filson, Worthington; four children, Patrick Filson, Minneapolis; Kathleen (Shane) Gilman, US Navy; Erin Filson, Mankato; and Maggie Filson, Orlando, FL; grandson, Aidan Robert Filson; parents, Robert & Ellen Filson, Duluth, GA; sister, Mary Ann (Leonard) Bachkes, Duluth, GA; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian, in 1976; and his mother and father-in-law, Richard & Shirley Johnson.
