ROBERT "BOB" D. MILLER, age 73, of Luverne, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born on November 26, 1942, in Cherokee, IA, to Darrell and Esther (Horstman) Miller. He was baptized & confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA. Bob graduated from Marcus High School; and later attended SDSU, in Brookings, as a Pre Vet student. He was drafted into the United States Army and served as a Medical Lab Technician in Ft. Sill, OK. After the service, Bob went to auctioneering school and farmed with his father. In 1968, he took a job with John Morrell & Co. as a hog buyer. For the past twenty years, he bought cattle. This was a lifetime dream to be a cattle buyer. He traveled to Texas, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, Iowa North & South Dakota and Nebraska to sales.
Bob married Cheryl Kramer on October 12, 1968, at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in Magnolia. In 1972, they moved to the farm north of Magnolia for twenty years before moving to the farm south of Rushmore. In 2011, they moved to Luverne. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne.
He was a free spirit. Bob lived his life as a dream and his dream led him to the life he always wanted – to be a cattle buyer. He loved the thrill of buying a million dollars worth of cattle in a day. All of the long days & nights on the road took a toll on Bob's body. Sitting in a car for eighty thousand miles a year. People would say, "Are you crazy". His reply would be "Yes & I love it!" Bob met many good "Ranch" people and he loved their way of life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cheryl Miller, Magnolia; two sons, Brett Miller, Magnolia; and Michael (Laura) Miller, Lakeville; six grandchildren, Andrew, Seth, Gabbi, Kate, Jenna & Myles; two brothers, Brad Miller, St. Louis, MO; and Brian (LuAnn) Miller, Marcus, IA; two sisters-in-law, Darlys Miller, Marcus, IA; and Dorral Guzman, Donna, TX; two brothers-in-law, Alan Kramer, Kenneth; and Kevin (Shelly) Kramer, Marshall; and many nieces & nephews.
