RODNEY WAYNE PLANTZ, age 77, of Brewster, died suddenly from cardiac arrest on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born February 9, 1943, in Windom, to Lyle and Ruth (Williams) Plantz. He attended school in Windom & Russell.
Rod married Darlene Joyce Peterson on October 19, 1963 in Russell. After their marriage, the couple lived in various places before moving to Brewster in 1977. For twenty seven years, Rod worked as a foreman for Don Gass Trenching in Fulda. He later drove truck for DND Trucking for over seven years. In 2002, Rod retired because of health reasons.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brewster. Rod was a very giving person. He was never happier than he was when helping others. He volunteered many hours helping construct the Brewster Veterans Monument, he did volunteer work at the Presbyterian church in Brewster (landscaping/snow removal) for many years and he also did volunteer mowing for many neighbors in town. Rod also mowed and helped with maintenance at the Hersey Cemetery, in Brewster, for last several years. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Rod is survived by his wife, Darlene Plantz, Brewster; son, Dean (Jenny) Plantz, Houston, MN; daughter, Linette Plantz, Worthington; four grandchildren, Emily (Jon) Millen, Victoria (David Beech) Plantz, Christopher Rodney (Meggan Strub) Plantz and Tanner Plantz; sixteen great-grandchildren, Jaytin, Alivia, Isabella, Abigail, Adalyn, Jobb, Jensen, Jonny, Gavin, Madelina, Lyric, Frankie, Edie, Arlo and a baby due in February and Kiera; six brothers, Larry (Jean) of Slayton; Roger (Kathy) of Spirit Lake, IA; David (Laurel) of Brandon, SD; Jerry of Lakefield; Steve (Janie) of Clear Lake, IA; and Tom (Ronda) of Lakefield; three sisters, Bernice (Stan) of Milford, IA; Mary of Milford, IA; and Debbie; and extended family, Jami and Kiera Buntjer, Brewster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Nelda, Norman, Carol, Janice and Judy.
Visitation will be 3-6 pm Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A private family funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday officiated by Pastor Robert Bartlett. A celebration of life will take place at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in Brewster. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery in Brewster.
