ROSELLA M. (SMEINS) McCORKELL, age 91, of Luverne, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Rosie was born May 28, 1924 near Chamberlain, SD; to Mike and Eva (Schmit) Meyers. She grew up in the Chamberlain area and attended country school. In 1937, she moved with her parents to Montrose, SD.
She married Vernon Smeins on January 26, 1947 and they farmed in the Holland, Minnesota area. They had three children, Mary, Jack and Betty. Vernon died on March 22, 1984. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1986 and did house work, babysitting, worked in a craft store, and a meat locker system.
In 1992, she married Bruce McCorkell and in 1993 they moved to Luverne, Minnesota. Bruce died January 13, 2008. Rosie will always be remembered for home cooked meals and especially for her caramel rolls. Rosie heard the Gospel as it was preached by Jesus in 1946 and accepted this faith and lived it from that time on.
She is survived by her children Mary (Chris) Genna Seattle, WA; Jack (Leanne) Smeins Holland, MN; Betty (Dick) Moss Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three step children Harlan (Linda) McCorkell Mankato MN; Larry (Virginia) McCorkell Blaine MN; Lois (Tim) Holman Liberty Lake, WA; their children and grandchildren, sisters, Mary (Si) DeJonge and Sister Michelle Meyers and special friend Sister Kay O'Neil, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband's Vernon Smeins in 1984, and Bruce McCorkell in 2008, an infant sister, four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne and continue on Saturday from 9 to 10 am. The Service will be Saturday at 10 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. The burial will be in the New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone, MN.
