Obituary

RUSSELL J. CHRISTIANS, age 87, of Worthington, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born October 1, 1920 in George, IA; to parents Jake E. and Tena (Duin) Christians. He graduated from George High School in George Iowa. Russell was united in marriage to Maxine Schwarzkopf on November 26, 1947 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, IA. After their marriage the couple worked for various farmers in northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. In 1958, they lived and farmed near Harris, IA. The couple moved to Worthington in 1971 where he was employed at Campbell Soup Company for twenty five years. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting toy tractors and watching sporting events on Television. Russell is survived by a niece Gloria (Ron) Hanson, Renner, SD; and a special young man Kendall Ward, Brandon, SD; and his children Jordon and Dalton; a sister, Gladys Kooistra, Balaton, MN and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine L. Christians on February 19, 2005; sister Rose Kruse and a brother Delmar Christians. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington. The service will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington with Father Larry Brixius officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Ashton, Iowa at 1 pm on Wednesday. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Hospice Cottage Inc.
