RUSSELL MELVIN GABRIELSON, a teller of tales as tall as his kindness was deep, passed away at the age of 85 at the Sanford Medical Center, in Luverne, on Friday, October 19, 2007. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, his mischievous smile and his helping hands. Russell was born on February 25, 1922, in Luverne, to Jens and Karen (Stolan) Gabrielson who came from Norway. He made his living off the land as an area farmer, and a Pioneer Seed Salesman, alongside his first wife, Audrey Conrad, who he married on December 30, 1947. Russell and Audrey were married for forty seven years and together raised three children, Patricia, Greg & Kathy. Russell was active in Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne; and was a proud member of the Sons of Norway. He spent as much time as possible at the family cabin ?Up North? on Twin Lakes just outside of Menahga, MN. There, surrounded by family and friends from near and far, Russell could be found spinning stories by the campfire, playing a game (or ten) of pinochle or catching what would undoubtedly became the biggest fish of the season. The cabin will continue to be the birthplace of many great memories for those who have been touched by Russell?s life. He was fortunate to have a life filled by two great loves. He married his second bride, Olga Thorson, on January 10, 1998 and with that union welcomed Olga?s children, Pam, Kathy & Jeff into his life. Russell and Olga, two founding members of the ?Young Couples? Club? enjoyed nearly ten years of laughter and friendship. After the passing of his first wife, it was Olga who kept Russell?s heart full and plate overflowing. She was a blessing in his life and remains a true gift to Russell?s children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Russell will be sadly missed by his wife, Olga Gabrielson, Luverne; three children, Pat (Tom) Thomas, Tyler; Greg (Joanne) Gabrielson, Luverne; and Kathy (John) Jarchow, Luverne; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step children, Pam (Jack) Hommen, Fargo, ND; Kathy Thorson, Luverne; and Jeff Thorson, Luverne; brother, George (Arna) Gabrielson, Luverne; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Gabrielson, Luverne. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Audrey Gabrielson, on September 9, 1994; brother, John; and a sister, Jennie Vestlie.
