RUSSELL E. ROOS, age 83, of Luverne, died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, in Luverne. He was born October 21, 1928, in rural Luverne, to Oscar and Ellen (Somelson) Roos. Russell attended country school in rural Luverne. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Russell married Shirley Busse on January 6, 1950, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in rural Luverne. Russell worked for various farmers before starting his own business Russell Roos Milk Hauling in July of 1956. In 1962, the family moved to Luverne. The business became Roos & Son Inc. in 2003. In February of 2009, Russell became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Luverne. He enjoyed working and hauling milk; and his family.
Russell is survived by his three children, Cheryl Roos, Luverne; Scott (Chris) Roos, Luverne; and Doug Roos, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, Mandy Brown, Brandi (Travis) Barnes, Forrest (Angie) Roos, B. J. Worshek, Darcy (Chad) Hoff, Dean Moss, Jamey Moss & Cody Moss; four great grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden, Marshal & Dylan; sister, Vivian (Roy) Asp, Cloquet; sister-in-law, Helen Roos, St. Cloud; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley, on July 16, 2007; three brothers, Henry, Harold & Bartel Roos; and an infant daughter, Sherri Lynn.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-8 pm, with the family present from 6-8 PM, at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 2 PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Richard Lauger. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
