SABO GERRIT STEENSTRA, age 74, of Edgerton, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. He was born June 2, 1938, in Rock County, Battle Plain Township, to Gerrit and Bertha (Veld) Steenstra. Sabo attended school in Edgerton. He served his country in the United States Army.
Sabo married Betty Veen on July 5, 1963, in Edgerton. After their marriage, the couple lived in Washington DC while Sabo was still in the service. They then moved to their current residence two miles west of Leota.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, farming, reading, playing pool & poker, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Sabo is survived by his wife, Betty Steenstra, Edgerton; daughter, Kiersten (Ron Hagberg) Greenhoff, Holland, MN; son, Bill (Kim) Steenstra, Quasqueton, IA; three grandchildren, Justin & Andrew Schaap; and Micaela Steenstra; and two sisters, Kay Alsum, Denver, CO; and Joanne Kortleever, Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Steenstra.
A time of fellowship will be from 11am to 1pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. A memorial service will be 1 pm Thursday, officiated by Rev. Ron Nichols, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. A private family burial will be at a later date.
