SAM KEIZER, age 89, of Luverne, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. He was born June 11, 1923, near Hudson, SD, to Jake and Anna (Reitsma) Keizer. Sam attended country school. He served his country in the United States Army.
Sam married Darlene Krause on August 26, 1951, at the Hudson Lutheran Church in Hudson, SD. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Rock Valley, IA. In 1961, they moved to a farm north of Magnolia before moving to their farm near Luverne. He became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home in 2012.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne; the Luverne VFW; and the Luverne Senior Citizens. He enjoyed attending auctions, horses, collecting belt buckles and feeding his birds.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Deb (Wes) Fuerstenberg, Luverne; granddaughter, Keri (Heath) Petersen, Hardwick; great granddaughter, Kenzi Petersen; three step grandchildren, Wayne (Stacy) Fuerstenberg, Daryl (Amy) Fuerstenberg & Jean (Stuart) Soehl; nine step great grandchildren, Macie, Jenna, Karmen, Dean, Sadie, Luke, Ethan, Emily & Lexi; brother, George Keizer, Inwood, IA; and a sister, Christina Schomacker, Canby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene Keizer, on May 4, 2004; daughter, Joyce Ellen Keizer, on December 16, 2005; and an infant daughter, Darlene.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Josh Enderson. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW.
