SHIRLEY MAE KASS, age 85, of Worthington, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born April 20, 1929, in Merrill, IA, to Lieb and Laura (Kress) Deutschle. She graduated from Merrill High School.
Shirley married James Kass on June 21, 1947, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, IA. They made their home in Merrill. The family moved to Worthington in 1964. Shirley worked as an Avon Lady for over twelve years. She then cleaned businesses & houses for area families. Shirley & Jim moved to The Meadows on April 1, 2010.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, where she served in the Ladies Aid & Quilters. Shirley was also a member of the Worthington Hospital RSVP and the Worthington Food Bank. She enjoyed baking, and needlework.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Terry (Rose) Kass, Kaukauna, WI; and Timothy (Gail) Kass, Merrill, IA; four grandchildren, Anna Kass, Amy Kass, Philip (Karen) Kass & Angela Kass; and four great grandchildren, Cody, Nicholas, Devon & Clara.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim on April 13, 2011; and a granddaughter, Rachel Jo in 1980.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Funeral will be Friday at 10:30 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Gary Andersen. Burial will be 2 pm Friday at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, IA.
