IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ann
Graff
October 18, 1925 – August 18, 2010
Shirley Ann Kimball, age 84, of Luverne, died Wednesday, August 18 at Sanford Hospital in Luverne, surrounded by family. She was born on October 18, 1925, in Bellevue, Nebraska to parents James and Lillian Kimball. Shirley graduated from high school in Randolph, Nebraska. After receiving a secretarial science degree from Norfolk Junior College in Norfolk, Nebraska, she worked as a secretary for several years. In 1947, Shirley and her brother, Robert, moved to Bancroft, Nebraska, where they owned and operated the local newspaper, The Bancroft Blade. Shirley married Lyle Graff on May 14, 1950 at Randolph Presbyterian Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed for several years near Bancroft, Nebraska before Lyle attended seminary and then ministered in churches throughout the Midwest. As a full-time housewife and mother, Shirley never wavered in her faithful support of her husband's ministry and her loving devotion to their seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family and friends, playing cards, dominoes and making jigsaw puzzles. Shirley's life was a testimony of her faith in Jesus Christ. She selflessly placed others first and demonstrated her love for others by her actions. As an excellent cook and seamstress, she showed her love for her family in practical ways, such as making the world's best apple pie! In her last year of life, Shirley bravely battled MDS, a form of bone marrow cancer. Her perseverance and attitude was an inspiration to all who knew her.
