Steven Ray Block was born October 14, 1953, in Worthington, MN to Wilbert and Elsie (Busch) Block. He was raised on the family farm just 3 miles north of Round Lake, MN. He attended school in Round Lake and graduated in 1971. Later in life, he completed his bachelor's degree from Minnesota State University-Mankato with majors in Mass Communications and History.
He worked for the Sather Cookie Company for a number of years before meeting and marrying Rosalie Elaine Peters in 1990, in Worthington, MN. They moved around a bit making their home in Jackson, MN, Albert Lea, MN, and eventually Raton, New Mexico where they stayed for more than 10 years. They were avid tennis players and followers of the sport. Their marriage ended in 2019. He was a journalist for the Trinadad Chronicle-News in Trinidad, CO, until his retirement. He was a historian and consumed any world history book that he could find. He was also a huge sports fan dedicated to supporting the Minnesota sports teams; he was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He donated his book collection of over 400 volumes to the Round Lake High School Museum.
He was a gentle soul. Always giving his time to others and wanting others to get help before himself. As a Christian his faith carried him through life, understanding that Christ had a plan for him and that that plan wasn't his to change. He was always soft-spoken and willing to share the vast knowledge that he possessed. Sharing quality time with his best friend, Gracie his dog, was always a high priority.
Following several health issues, he returned to Worthington, MN, where he spent the last two years of his life closer to family. His smile and wit will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Allan.
