Obituary

SUSAN VAN GROUW, of Worthington, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. She was born September 20, 1923, in Doon, IA, to Dick and Bertha (Jouwstra) Ykema. She graduated from Madelia High School. Susan married Clarence Van Grouw on January 6, 1947, in Sanborn, IA. The couple farmed east of Worthington before retiring in 1993. Susan was a homemaker and also worked at Tempo, which later became Alco in Worthington. She became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in 2002. She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington. Susan enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening, traveling, playing cards & games. She loved cooking special meals for her family and she was a faithful walker. Susan is survived by her three children, Linda (Ed) Giesen, Shakopee; Ruth (Jeff) Kreger, Council Bluffs, IA; and Clair (Kelli) Van Grouw, Worthington; nine grandchildren, Heather (Shawn) Stewart, Sean (Krista) Giesen, Megan (Daniel) Remiger, Corey Giesen, Kyle Kreger, Sarah Kreger, Hannah Van Grouw, Mallory Van Grouw & Jake Van Grouw; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence, on October 21, 2002; four brothers, August, William, John & Charles Ykema; and two sisters, Anne Ykema & Madelyn Postma. Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Veterans Home 1300 N. Kniss Luverne, MN 56156; or Pioneer Village 1600 Stower Dr. Worthington, MN 56187.
