SUSAN ELEANOR WIENANDS, age 60, of Pipestone, died Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Hospice of Murray County in Slayton. She was born November 1, 1963, in Queens, New York to Eleanor S. Wienands and William H. Wienands. She grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma where she attended Sachem High School North before completing trade school to become an electrician. Susan lived on Long Island for much of her life where she worked as a master electrician as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 25. She managed many notable electrical construction, maintenance, and telecommunications projects in New York City and on Long Island.

Following the illness of her youngest son, Jonathan, Susan and her family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and later to Pipestone, Minnesota. During her time in the midwest she continued her career in commercial industry including support for oil extraction operations in western North Dakota, wind power farms in South Dakota, and even at the McMurdo research station in Antarctica.

Susan had a passion for travel, a love for animals, and an interest in real estate and home renovation.  She greatly enjoyed gardening and maintained a vegetable garden and various fruiting shrubs. She was never without rhubarb in the freezer.

Susan is survived by her three sons, Matthew, Christopher, and Jonathan, and her sister Alicyn.

A private family memorial service will take place with the Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Luverne.
