Obituary

TENA (JANSSEN) GINGERICH, age 93, of Worthington, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Sibley Specialty Care Hospice in Sibley, IA. She was born March 22, 1923, in Osceola County, IA, to Henry and Jenny (Meyeraan) Dammer.

Tena married Clarence Janssen on February 21, 1942, in Rushmore. They farmed in the Ellsworth and Rushmore areas before retiring and moving to Worthington in 1982. Clarence died on September 20, 1987.

Tena married Don Gingerich on August 31, 1990, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore and the Rushmore Ladies Auxiliary. Tena loved to play Bingo. She enjoyed working on the farm, milking cows and raising her chickens.

Tena is survived by her husband, Don Gingerich, Worthington; four children, Carol Schnepf, Sibley, IA; Donald (Phyllis) Janssen, Columbus, MS; Arnold (Mary) Janssen, Athens, GA; and Marvin (Marlene) Janssen, Marietta, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Kim (Mike) Watts, Brian (Kim) Schnepf, Karla (Dale) Hanna, Karie (Jedd) Winkle, David (Becky) Janssen, Pam (Billy) Scott, Robert (Angie) Janssen, Michael (friend, Jill) Janssen, Chris (Suki) Janssen, Adam (Shannon) Janssen, Sara (Ryan) Hardwick, Nick Janssen and Tim Langenberg; thirteen great grandchildren; two step children, Bonnie (Terry) Moore and Cheryl (friend, Vickie) Moore; three step great grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Dammer, Worthington; and Harm (Rosella) Dammer, Worthington; and a sister, Alma Wiertzema, Adrian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clarence; a sister, Mattie Bents; and a brother, Sievert Dammer.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Rushmore, officiated by Dan Dettman. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore.
