VALERY HENRY BRUNS, age 85, of Adrian, formerly of St. Kilian, died Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Adrian Care Center. He was born December 12, 1926, at the family farm near St. Kilian, in Nobles County, to John and Elizabeth (Burkard) Bruns. He received his education at St. Kilian Catholic School. Val joined his father in an active grain livestock operation after completing the eighth grade. When his dad retired, Val enjoyed working with wood and took pride as the "carpenter" repairing and painting on the farm. He was a gentle compassionate and responsible caretaker of his brothers & sisters.
He was a lifetime member of St. Kilian Catholic Church; and the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed gardening, his flowers and working on the farm.
Left to cherish Val's memory are his two brothers, Ervin Bruns, Adrian; and Elmer (Janice) Bruns, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Mathilda Pearson, Worthington; and Shirley (John) Schmidt, Emmetsburg, IA; sister-in-law, Victoria Bruns, Hickson, ND; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marcella Welder, Lucille, Gladys & Ella Mae Bruns; two brothers, Jerome & Raphael "Ray" Bruns; and three brothers-in-law, George Welder, James Pearson & Jerry Zitterich.
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Friday, with a prayer service at 6 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Saturday at St. Kilian Catholic Church, in St. Kilian, officiated by Fr. James Seitz. Burial will be in the St. Kilian Cemetery.
