VERA R. HANSEN, age 84, of Worthington, died of natural causes Thursday, November 22, 2007, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, in Worthington. She was born January 12, 1923, in Worthington, to Ejner and Johanna (Heitberg) Hansen. Vera graduated from Worthington High School in 1941. She attended Worthington Community College and the University of Minnesota. Vera worked & trained at the University of Minnesota Medical School and later at Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul. She worked as a medical technologist. Vera also worked at several hospitals in St. Paul. In 1962, she returned to Worthington to care for her then elderly parents on their farm located just north of town. On June 8, 1964, she gave birth to her only child, Gregory Charles Hansen. For the past forty plus years she was a devoted and caring mother, good friend to many, and a valuable asset to the community. She was involved in many local activities including serving many years as part of the local Red Cross Blood Drive. Vera was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon & taught Sunday School; the Koinania Group; Worthington Kennel Club, where she had served as Past President; Sweet Adeline?s; Worthington Community Chorus; the Hospital Auxiliary; and the Worthington Garden Club. She loved gardening, music, golf, playing bridge, sewing & making many quilts. She enjoyed and valued over forty years of friendship and family support with her very special friends the Fitches, Rickers and Eatons, as well as many others to numerous to mention. Her ?hobby? was her friends. Vera is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory & Katie Hansen, Salem, OR; grandson, Cole Hansen; brother, Robert E. (Bobby Ann) Hansen, Worthington; sister, Helen (Howard) Marr, St. Paul; and two nieces, Linda Kay Hoaglund, St. Paul; and Jeannine (David) Ruschmeier, Plato. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Doris Hooglund; and Agnes Kephart. A memorial service will be Monday at 1 pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, officiated by Rev. Paul Moore. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
