VERLYN FRANKLIN HOLTON, age 73, formerly of Luverne, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. He was born April 16, 1939, in Luverne, to Bernard and Freida (Wheeler) Holton. He graduated from Auburn High School in Auburn, WA in 1957. Soon after high school, Verlyn entered the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.
Verlyn married LouAnn Brown on October 14, 1967, in Greenbush, MN. After their marriage, the couple lived in East Grand Forks where Veryln served in the military. After being discharged, he worked for the United States Post Office in Grand Forks. Verlyn lived at the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, before moving to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling to casinos and especially spending time with his family.
Verlyn is survived by his wife, LouAnn Holton, Coon Rapids; two daughters, Terra (Jim) Fraser, Andover; and Ann (Howard) Tinkham, Grand Rapids, MI; seven grandchildren, Garret & Lindsey Fraser; Jonathan Holton, and Carolyn, Audrey, Andrew & Alaina Tinkham; and a sister, Carolyn (Rick) Porter, Shelton, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 1pm Friday at Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Funeral will be Friday at 1pm at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, officiated by Chaplain Greg Hayek.
Funeral service will also be at 11am Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne with a visitation one hour prior. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
