VERNON AUGUST NOLL, age 97, of Luverne, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. He was born October 23, 1915, in Davenport, IA, to William and Anna (Jasper) Noll. At the age of fourteen, he made the journey to Minnesota with his father to farm his grandfathers farm in Springwater Township. Later, his family moved to a farm south of Luverne, where Vernon made many youthful memories on the Rock River. In 1947, he and his father moved to the farm on the Blue Mounds where he farmed until he retired in 1976.
Vernon married Louise Drenth on November 28, 1949, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. He enjoyed his life on the farm and was dedicated to caring for all the animals. A gentle man, he was especially skilled at caring for his sheep and always quick to help out a neighbor. Vernon became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home in 2011.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. He enjoyed fishing and sharing experiences with his fisher friends.
Vernon is remembered by his wife, Louise Noll, Luverne; three daughters, Marge Noll, Elko; Lynette (Jesse) Medellin, Upland, CA; and Elaine (David) Kvaas, St. Cloud; three grandchildren, Andrea (Mark) Kiffmeyer, Amber (Josh) Pogatshnik and Haley Kvaas. And five great grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, & Aidan Kiffmeyer and Eleanor & Asher Pogatshnik.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lolita Anderson.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Terry Morse. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
