VERONICA BECKMANN, age 98, of Wilmont, died Sunday, August 3, 2008, at the Sanford Adrian Care Center, in Adrian. She was born January 11, 1910, in rural Granville, IA to John and Anna (Hoffman) Penning. She attended school in Hospers, IA. Veronica married Raymond Beckmann on February 10, 1931, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Granville. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Granville for two years. They moved to a farm near Wilmont where they lived for a few years. In 1940 they moved to their home farm near Wilmont where Veronica lived until April , 2008. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Wilmont where she served with the Catholic Daughters, and the Women of the Catholic Council. She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking cookies, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards. Veronica is survived by her four children, two daughters, Marie (Myron) Onken, Reading; Alverna (Leroy) Madison, Wilmont; two sons, Joseph (Dianne) Beckmann, Wilmont; Norman Beckmann, Wilmont; sixteen grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; four sister-in-laws, Martha Penning, Wilmont; Marina Ecker, Granville, IA; Nancy Shafer, Granville, IA; Nina Beckmann, Primghar, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond, died October, 1993; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Agnes Beckmann; five brothers, Mike Penning, Raymond Penning, Clarence Penning, Edmond Penning, Edwin Penning; a sister, Leona Penning.
