VERONICA "VERNIE" McCANN, age 88, of Adrian, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Adrian Care Center. She was born July 2, 1925, on a farm near Lismore, to Herman and Kate (Bullerman) Henning. She graduated from St. Anthony Catholic High School.
Vernie married Victor McCann on November 27, 1945, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore. They resided in Lismore until 1967 when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1996 they retired in Adrian, MN. During her lifetime Veronica was head cook for St. Anthony School lunch program for many years. While in Colorado she worked for Current Company for many years. Veronica enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, upholstering, cards, puzzles and bingo. She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Vernie is survived by her husband Victor McCann, Adrian; five children, Diane (Richard) Hunter, Joan Nicholson, Darla (Jimmy) Kilgore, Bruce (Kate) McCann and Brian (Shari) McCann; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Cyril (Patricia) Henning; many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ervin, Clarence, Theodore Henning, Irene Erpelding and Delores Ashby; son in law, Lance Nicholson; and a granddaughter, Carrie Nicholson.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian; and from 9 to 9:45 am Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Friday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Lismore.
