VIOLA ROSE BRUNK, age 96, of Fulda, formerly of Worthington, died Tuesday, October 2, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda. She was born June 10, 1911 in rural Nobles County, MN; to parents, Arvid and Nellie (Hornstien) Hagberg. She attended rural school near Rushmore, MN. On March 16, 1937, Viola was united in marriage to Edward J. Brunk in Sioux Falls, SD. After their marriage the couple farmed near Rushmore and Ruthton. Viola was a housewife, mother, and helped with the family farm. She worked at Campbell Soup Company and also sold jewelry and cookware. She later worked as a nurse?s aide at the Cashel Nursing Home in Worthington, MN. In 1963, the couple moved to Worthington. They owned and operated Brunk?s Janitorial Service for 18 years. After retiring the couple moved to Rushmore in 1981. Edward died on May 6, 1992. After his death, Viola moved back to Worthington until becoming a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, in April of 2002. Viola was a member of the St. John?s Lutheran Church in Rushmore, the Dorcas Circle, ladies aide, she was also very active in the Senior Citizens Center in Rushmore. Viola had a passion for playing the piano and organ and she loved to whistle. She also enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, and crossword puzzles. Viola especially enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. Viola is survived by nine children, Gene (Linda) Brunk, Wahkon, MN; Rose (Herman) Bakker, Worthington, MN; Janis Niwa, Graham, WA; Betty (Kenneth) Merrill, Graham, WA; Lee (Vicki) Brunk, Puyallup, WA; Clarence (Nancie) Brunk, Little Elm, TX; Roger (Deana) Brunk; Eureka, MT; Carol (Daryl) Carlson, Tacoma, WA; June (David) Schettler, Windom, MN; 32 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and one brother, Leonard Hagberg, Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, in 1992, infant twin sons, one sister, four brothers and one grandson.
