VIRGIL ANDREW BAUMGARTNER, age 87, of Worthington, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, surrounded by loved ones, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Virg was born on April 28, 1932, at home on the family farm near Adrian, to Andrew and Cecelia (Brennan) Baumgartner. He attended country school southeast of Adrian. He then attended and graduated from Fulda High School. Virg served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Virg married Margaret Mary Ebbers on April 18, 1953 in Iona. After their marriage, the couple lived in New Jersey and Hawaii while serving his country. They then moved to Worthington where Virg worked at Rickbeils for over thirty-five years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington; the Knights of Columbus; the Worthington American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed baseball, golfing, softball, hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing games with family.
Virg is survived by his wife, Marge Baumgartner, Worthington; six children, Kathleen (Tom) Suby, Marshall; Dianne (Brian) Crowley, Slayton; Sherrie Le, Lino Lakes; Mike (Vicki) Baumgartner, Ham Lake; Dave (Mary) Baumgartner, Ham Lake; and Leanne (Scott) Casanova, Eagan; fifteen grandchildren, Andrew, Amy, Matt, Amanda, Stephanie, Shawn, Jenny, Luke, Brian, Lindsey, Angela, Eric, Ryan, Dylan and Luke; twenty-three great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Ray) Ebbers, Worthington; and three sisters-in-law, Kathy (Chuck) Fodness, Rushmore; Barb Baumgartner, Hudson, WI; and Imelda "Toots" Baumgartner, Brewster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kevin Le; three brothers, Bob, Pat and Don Baumgartner and an infant brother, Gerald.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington, with Parish Prayers at 5 pm. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. James Calahan and Deacon Vern Behrends. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
