Obituary

WALLACE "WALLY" EDWIN SCHOLTEN, age 91, of Worthington, died Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the Countryview Nursing Home, in Sibley, IA. He was born October 7, 1927, in Corsica, SD, to Joe and Cora (Slykhuis) Scholten. He attended school in Corsica and California before graduating from Sibley High School in 1945.

Wally married Ardis Brandt on May 18, 1950, in Sibley, IA. The couple lived in Worthington where Wally worked as a mechanic at the Ford dealership.

He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington where he was actively involved as an elder, Sunday school teacher, kids' club, CCC and many other ministries.

Upon retiring Wally engaged in multiple volunteer capacities including 55 Alive, Salvation Army Bell Ringers, RSVP, Nobles Cordsman, Big Brothers, Golden K, Wood Crafters toy baskets, Gideons, and other activities earning him Nobles County volunteer of the Year in 2002.  Wally and Ardis also had a passion for mission work and helped organize the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store and went on numerous mission trips.

Personal interests included singing, fishing, traveling, and ENDLESSLY playing games.

Wally is survived by four children, Debbie (Darrell) Koopmans, Holland, MI; Dianne (Tim) White, Pella, IA; Doug (Mary) Scholten, La Palma, CA; and Dave (Tamy) Scholten, Ulm, MT; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Joy) Koopmans, Leah (Nick) Fisher, Jonathan (Cate) Koopmans, Melissa (Jason) Anderson, Sarah (Matt) Zimmerman, Derek (Jillian) Scholten, Kiera (Christopher) Howard, Bridger (fiancé, Natalie) Scholten and Aiyana Scholten; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Rook, Sheldon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis on March 14, 2019; a granddaughter, Amy White, in 1981; and a sister, Ramona Noomen.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday, September 18, at the American Reformed Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Tim Truesdell. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
