WILBERT DANIEL WEIS JR, age 66, of Luverne, died Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Sanford USD Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born June 14, 1950, in Adrian, to Wilbert and Elizabeth (Broich) Weis. He graduated from Adrian High School. Wilbert later graduated from Southern Minnesota State University in Marshall, with a triple major. He also graduated from the University of Sioux Falls. In June of 2010, he received his Degree in Special Education from Augustana University.

Wilbert taught school in Ellsworth before he began teaching at Pinnacle Programs in Magnolia. Wilbert later worked as a cashier at Casey's in Luverne. He was a seasoned veteran in the Green Earth Players appearing in many productions. Wilbert was very involved in the Special Olympics where he was a coach and a mentor. He enjoyed being a crossing guard during his retirement.

Wilbert is survived by his four children, Hilary (Mike) Franklin, Long Prairie; Wilbert "JR" (Joyce Moore) Weis, Luverne; and David Weis, Luverne; Chad (Andrea) Swenson, Hills; grandchildren, Devin Meis, Wyatt Franklin, Tanner LaForge, Matrim Borth, Alexandra Borth, Matthew, Joshua, Rebecka and Noah Swenson; brother, Jack (LaDonna) Weis, Colbert, WA; and two sisters, Janet Gibson, Luverne; and Linda Smith, Menahga.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Pick; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Gibson & Adrian Smith.

A memorial service will be at 4 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Gary Klatt. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. A private burial of cremains will be at a later date.
