WILBUR "WILLIE" JACOBS, age 85, of Worthington, died, Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born September 17, 1926 in rural Rushmore to parents Will and Effie ( Aielts) Jacobs. Not long after his birth his mother passed away. He was raised by his aunt Minnie Jacobs and his grandparents. Wilbur attended school in Rushmore, MN
Wilbur entered the United States Army on October 23, 1950 and served until Oct 3, 1952. Wilbur was proud to serve his country. Wilbur was united in marriage to Elaine Cramer on February 3, 1951, in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington. Wilbur had various jobs in the area including Worthmore Ice Cream, Terrace Park and retired from the Worthington Regional Hospital as custodian.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, south of Rushmore, where he had served as Deacon and Trustee. He was also a member of the Worthington American Legion. Wilbur had a very outgoing & social spirit. He touched many lives. Wilbur was always hardworking, dependable, trustworthy and honest. He had a smile for everyone, he simply loved people.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and the family fishing trips to Leech Lake.
Wilbur is survived by one son, Ronald (Laurel) Jacobs, Stewartville, MN; & their children, Kyla Jacobs (Matt) & Matthew Jacobs (Nikki) two daughters, Donna ( Rod) Harvey, Worthington; & their children, Gina (Tony) Katona and Jon "Shorty" (Vieng) Harvey; Linda McDowell Luverne, her children, Andrew (April) Jurrens, Amanda Jurrens and Kaitlyn McDowell; and seven great grandchildren, Mariah, Preston T., Preston A., Ethan, Zoe, Payten & Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine on March 6, 2004; special aunt Minnie Jacobs; three brothers, Dick, George and Walt Jacobs, and Grandparents.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church south of Rushmore. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore with full military honors.
