William Moerke, age 84, of Beaver Creek, died Sunday, October 14th at the Minnesota Veteran's Home, Luverne. He was born May 29, 1923 in Summit Lake Township, Nobles County Minnesota to Jerry and Hattie (Ennenga) Moerke. He was raised and attended school in the Reading area. He entered the Army in December of 1944 and served with the 21st Infantry Regiment; 24 infantry Division, which received the Presidential Unit Citation for their actions in the Philippines. William was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), and was honorably discharged with a rank of Staff Sergeant in 1946. William married Mildred Aggen on February 24, 1947, in Rushmore. After their marriage the couple farmed near Rushmore. In the early 1950's the family moved to Rushmore where William worked for Standard Oil for 18 years. They moved to Beaver Creek in 1960. He was the first Supervisor for the MN Travel Information Center in Beaver Creek and enjoyed this job for 17.5 years. During his retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, being a Cub Scout Leader, and following the activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of the Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church, Volunteer Fire Department, Town Council, VFW, and the American Legion. William is survived by his four children; Russel and Linda Moerke, Lakeville; Marvella and Scott McClintock, St. Peter; Dale and Rosemary Moerke, Luverne; Lois and Scott Magnuson, Hopkins; ten grandchildren-Heather (Wayne) Adams, Aaron (Shari) Moerke, David (Grace) McClintock, Nathan Moerke, Andrew (Teresa) Moerke, Timothy (Shauna) Moerke, Alison Moerke, Alicia (Dave) Engelking, Erik Magnuson and Haley Magnuson; four great grandchildren, Carter Bill Moerke, Keegan James Moerke, Peyton Rose Moerke and Amber Ackel; and two brothers and one sister, Lawrence (Tillie) Moerke, Dawson; Dorothy (Roger) Hieronimus, Adrian, and Dennis Moerke, Philpot, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, sister, Betty (Rollin) Lerch and his parents.
