Obituary

WILLIAM D. ROBERTS, age 74, of Luverne, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital. He was born August 24, 1933, in Dover, OH, to Dean and Grace (Slaughter) Roberts. Bill graduated from Carrollton High School, in Carrollton, OH, in 1951. He entered the United States Air Force and served his country for over twenty years serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Bill met his wife, Charline Graffunder while they were serving in the Air Force. The couple was married on January 14, 1956, in O?Fallon, IL. Bill was stationed at Scott Air Force Base; and later at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. On February 1, 1972, Bill retired from the service and began working at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne, WY. In 1974, the couple moved to Pipestone. In 1985, they moved to Luverne. He was a lifetime member of the Luverne American Legion; the Luverne VFW; the Disabled American Veterans; the Uniformed Services; and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed hunting, fishing & taking trips to Flandreau, SD. Bill is survived by his wife, Charline Roberts, Luverne; two daughters, Melinda Roberts, Luverne; and Stephanie (Gerald) Hughes, Luverne; six grandchildren, Wendy DeJager, Afton (Daniel) Smith, Brett DeJager, Jillian (fianc?e, Dean Henderson) Dekoekkoek, Amanda Dekoekkoek & Jory Roberts; three great grandchildren, MaKayla Smith, Gavin Snow & Owen Smith; two sisters, Ann Sher & Linda Turley; and a brother, Dr. Jon Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Roberts, in 1994; and an infant grandson, Christopher Roberts.
