WILLIAM HENRY VORTHERMS, age 83, of Luverne, died Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Bethany Home in Brandon, SD. He was born April 13, 1940, in Adrian, to William and Ida (Ahlers) Vortherms. He graduated from St. Adrian High School in 1958. Bill worked on the family farm until leaving for the United States Army in 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1963 because of a hardship to return home to bury his father. Bill lived and farmed with is mother. He later moved into Adrian where he worked at Lewis Hardware and Oertlie's Gas Station.
Bill married Audrey Schei over fifty years ogo on June 14, 1973, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple was blessed with four children, Keri, David, Amy and Sarah. The family moved to Luverne in 1982. Bill worked for IBP and they bought The Pantry, in Luverne, in 1986. They purchased the Hwy. 75 Coffee Shop & Carwash in 1988. Bill retired in 1996 and the couple moved to rural Luverne where Bill did various paper routes to keep him busy.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. He enjoyed dancing, lawn work and taking care of his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Audrey Vortherms, Luverne; three children, Keri (Steve) Hansen, Magnolia; David (Stacey) Vortherms, Luverne; and Sarah Vortherms, St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren, Molly (fiancé, Will Natte) Hansen, Meagan Hansen, Madison Hansen, Ava Vortherms, Marcus Vortherms and Presley Vortherms; a brother, Donald Vortherms, Reading; two sisters, Anna (Dan) Harris, Fairmont; and Mary Ellen Vortherms, Worthington; and a brother-in-law, Arnie Penning, Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Amy Vortherms; three brothers, Robert (Mercedes), Orville (Doreen) and Raymond (Roselyn) Vortherms; two sisters, Dorothy (Joseph) Heitkamp and Veronica Penning; and a sister-in-law, Judy Vortherms.
A private family burial will take place at a later date with Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Luverne.
